The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has called for any person working as part of the Green Deal to be fully accredited in order for the government scheme to be successful.
Responding to a report by the Low Carbon Construction Innovation and Growth Team, Gary Strong, director of practice standards and technical guidance at RICS, said the group is "keen to make sure that consumers accessing the scheme are receiving effective and independent advice about the most appropriate measures for their homes".
The report has highlighted ways for the government and the construction industry to make sure that a low carbon future is achieved.
"There is a clear need for the industry to agree a standard method of measuring carbon for use as a design tool and for scheme appraisal," Mr Strong said.
"We have recently been working closely with QS [quantity surveyors] firms to understand carbon measurement and to address the issues about assessing cost and providing useful data."
He added that the group will conduct research into the financial performance of green buildings and present their findings to the government.
