Environmental groups the Renewable Energy Association, Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace have joined up to lobby the government on its green energy stance.
"The UK has the lowest solar ambitions among the major EU economies," the group said in a statement.
"Less than a year into the successful feed-in tariff scheme the UK's emerging solar industry has been thrown into chaos by efforts to severely constrain growth.
"Given our economic situation, surely we should seize green growth with both hands. Instead our solar ambitions are weakening."
Ecotricity founder Dale Vince told the news source that the government has "pulled the rug out from beneath big solar" after announcing that the feed-in tariff would be reduced for solar installations over a certain size.
